Often written as (Newfoundland Tal, Newfoundland Tall, or Newfoundland “Tall”) is a rare, old-world heirloom garlic with a bit of mystery around it—exactly the kind of variety garlic collectors love. It’s not a commercial variety—you mostly find it through seed savers, small farms, or garlic festivals. Newfoundland Tall is believed to have been grown for generations in Newfoundland’s cool, maritime climate. Newfoundland Tall grow into tall, vigorous plants, (hence giving it the name). Newfoundland Tall tends to be strong and hot when raw. Rich, warm, and slightly sweet when roasted. If you enjoy varieties like Estonian Red, Music, or Fishlake #3, this one fits right in that bold, satisfying classic flavour category. Newfoundland Tall usually have 4–6 large cloves per bulb. It has an excellent cold tolerance making it perfect for places in British Columbia—especially interior regions like Merritt—it performs very well. Stores 4–6 months when stored properly.
