Transylvanian Softneck
Artichoke
Transylvanian has a mild flavour with just a hint of warmth when eaten raw. Bulbs have 8 to 10 cloves and store for 8 to 12 months. This variety originates from Transylvania in Central Romania. Although originally cultivated in the Transylvanian mountains, this garlic was introduced to North America in the 1990s by garlic enthusiast Chester Aaron. It is one of the most cold hardy softnecks that can be grown in Canada. It’s steeped in folklore—often humorously linked to vampire legends due to its Romanian roots. It comes to us from John Boy Farms.
